Bronny James, a 4-star point guard recruit and the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, has narrowed his list of potential colleges to Ohio State, USC, and Oregon. James would also tell On3, "I'm still open, but those are options." The Sierra Canyon School star ranks 28th in the country on ESPN's Class of 2023 Top 100 list, with interest coming from other top-tier Division I schools, such as Memphis, Duke, Kansas, among others. James also ranks the 7th best player in California.
Ohio State seems to be the prominent leader in the sweepstakes for James. James' father, LeBron, states he would've played for Ohio State if he opted to play a year in college. In September 2022, James made an unofficial visit to OSU, where "he was on hand for Ohio State’s season-opening football game against Notre Dame and watched the basketball team practice", according to the Columbia Dispatch. He also would be a part of a photo shoot featuring the school's throwback jerseys, and he would post the pictures onto his Instagram, with the caption, "buckeye nation? #notcommitted".
James' recruiting started all the way back when he was nine years old, when then-Ohio State coach Thad Matta would joke he needed to offer James a scholarship. LeBron James would state in an exclusive interview with ESPN earlier in the month that, "I need to be on the floor with my boy, I got to be on the floor with Bronny." Last year, he stated he wanted to be teammates with Bronny in the NBA, but instead tells ESPN, "Either in the same uniform or a matchup against him. I don't mean like [guarding one another all game] -- because he's a point guard and I'm at this point now I'm playing center or whatever the team needs from me. But I would love to do the whole Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. thing. That would be ideal for sure."
Bronny James told the Los Angeles Times he will make his commitment decision after Sierra Canyon's season is over.
